“When a young tree is injured it grows around that injury… Gnarly burls and misshapen limbs speak of injuries and obstacles encountered through time and overcome. The way a tree grows around its past contributes to its exquisite individuality, character and beauty.”
~ Peter Levine, “Waking the Tiger."

Welcome.
A very warm welcome to my site. I am very glad you have made your way here. I know it can be a huge deal to be exploring talking therapy options. But there’s lots of evidence it can make a positive difference, when you need to get your life back on track, when experiencing pain and upset, or you simply want to get the most out of life.
Why me?
Choosing a therapist can be a baffling process and complicated by the myriad of theoretical approaches on offer. So what can I offer? I am a qualified Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, having gained my qualification from the Northern Guild for Psychotherapy and Counselling in Newcastle, rated as “outstanding”. I am also a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). The BACP is the main accrediting body for counselling in the UK. It sets a Code of Ethics which all members must abide by. I undergo full, quality, professional supervision in all my work, to the level required by the BACP, preserving client anonymity. I have full professional insurance and hold a current ICO (data protection) certificate. You can read more about the BACP here. As a registered member of the BACP, I am fully committed to my programme of continued professional development. I have recently completed training in online and telephone counselling, and the renowned Cruse bereavement care training. |
My background.
I have had five years of experience providing counselling in the Wirral and in Northumberland, working with clients with a variety of issues. I have previously worked as a volunteer counsellor at a disability charity in Merseyside and am presently a volunteer bereavement counsellor with Cruse. I have also worked as a qualified social worker in a busy London Borough, supporting adult clients with a wide range of challenges, mental health problems, physical disabilities and sensory impairments. I have degrees in social studies from Oxford and Cambridge Universities, including published academic research into the challenges facing older carers. I also have a wealth of personal experience, around loss, health and resilience, on which to draw. |
How we will work together.
You can read more detail about my approach to counselling here. In summary, I bring together many different techniques and methods, depending on your needs and wishes. Together we develop a tailor-made treatment plan which works for you. I will listen as your story unfolds, with empathy and understanding of what is going on for you. We will work in collaboration. By talking to an empathetic outsider, you can begin to make sense of what is happening for you. Any symptoms can begin to ease, and you can start to embrace all the options for your future well-being. Working with me provides you with a safe, contained holding space to ‘offload’. I am non-judgemental and will respect you as my client at all times. |

Our arrangements for working together.
I can offer you either short, medium or long term work, depending on the way in which you would like to work. We will discuss options at the first session. I can usually arrange your first (assessment) session promptly. This session is one hour and is offered without obligation .NB. Due to issues of legal jurisdiction, I can only work with you if you are located in Great Britain. |
